How to destroy freelancers

It appears that on Facebook people can be shut down remotely and despite obvious, reported, and evidenced abuse the abuser has the power to enable the system to activate this function. Were you aware that capacity in the terms and conditions is and can be determined by people unknown to you, with an axe to grind, and power to retain?

I get it the exclusiveness of it all.  I get it the OTHERING, the ostracism, the privilege… it doesn’t matter where you are what access you have if they (who is they?) don’t want you to participate you won’t. Simple so even with union action the results are the same, even with a peak body the same, and only when we are all not left behind will the difference be made. Who came up with that phrase? Was it Helen Clarke? Was it Antonio because his press would suggest so.

About to tucker out and take a break, hoping our man Clinton Pryor is closer to Canberra than Dubbo by now. The heart of Australia walks with him in spirit and meaning. Foot weary and sore they trudged with the heart and minds of the Australian people, they were many our Indigenous diggers and if they were honoured in a similar way I can’t see it. I look across the table and see the man that is my mother-in-law (deceased) son and know in my heart he walks beside the spirit walker with eagles flying overhead and turkey in their bellies.

Who the hell do I think I am you say! Just me, just Ailsa, no one special and NO ONE gets left behind.

Othering

What does it feel like to be on the other side of shifting sands beneath your feet and the ringing of derisive comments in your ears, and to be given a shifty disrespectful look as a privileged although person with a lived experience of mental distress.  It is nothing like the blatant and direct discrimination that many Aboriginal, Torres Strait and Islander peoples experience, but there are some similarities.

Indirectly the discrimination is not easily identified initially but as conversation turn to frailties and the sick role, the power dynamic shifts and it is obvious in these contexts that you are being othered.  Louise Byrne wrote extensively of this in her thesis and I will direct you to seeking out her words to bolster this argument that indirect discrimination is equally divisive and derisive as the blatant and obvious direct discrimination.

My recent experience is one of family and friends.  This is not a bad experience but maintaining patience and working through the obvious different outlooks and inward feelings creates a tension that only a person with the patience of Job (biblical man) would be able to withstand with grace.  However, if determined to maintain these relationships it can be done, a few choice words between loved ones cannot break a blood bond.  It also helps to have had many years of credibility despite the mental “illness” diagnoses and supporters to enhance the quality of the interchanges.

This is the first of my blogging and I hope to be able to promote mental health in the ensuing entries.

Thank you for your attention and time reading my words.

And it is not the last, or the best…that is yet to come!

I telephoned social services Enfield (Sandra Muschett) and she said she did not know details of the preliminary court Hearing today. By late morning I still had not heard anything. I then decided to phone the London Borough of Enfield Legal Department. The switchboard operator said she could not give out numbers to me but […]
